Coledale Hospital Gully - a new bushcare group started in February 2010
- are you interested in joining us?
Call Danie on 4268 0952 for more information
Some of the local members of the bush regeneration co-op I belong to have restarted a Bushcare group for the restoration of Coledale Hospital Gully vegetation.
Some of you were involved in the previous group with Helen Whelan and some of you have expressed interest when I mentioned it recently. And others of you might just like to know about it.
We're hoping some of you may want to get involved or you may be willing to pass this email on to other, potentially interested people.
The group is be part of the Wollongong Council Bushcare program.
I have spoken to Helen Whelan about this awhile ago and she was happy for us to restart the group.
There are avenues for applying for grant money to get professional support for the group's work or to work on parts of the Gully which are beyond a voluntary group.
The vegetation community in the Gully is Littoral Rainforest which is listed as an endangered ecological community in the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act (NSW TSC Act).
It also qualifies as Littoral Rainforest and Coastal Vine Thicket in the SE Corner Bioregion which is listed as critically endangered in the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EP&BC Act).
The Gully vegetation continues up behind (west) of the Hospital.
I will include our species list for the site, some photos as well as conservation advice for the Littoral Rainforest and Coastal Vine Thicket
Dear Potential Members, Maybes and Interested Parties.
We have started up this group to work in 2 areas.
One is an area of Littoral Rainforest opposite Coledale Hospital, which has been designated Critically Endangered and was worked some years ago by a group with Helen Whelan. This has become overgrown with Morning Glory which will smother the canopy if we don't get at it soon . I gather that most of you are interested in working here and many are keen to work on a Friday., some prefer Saturday.
The other area is at Maronga Park at Clifton where another Endangered Community, Themeda Grassland, has been worked under a grant for 3 years and now needs some maintenance..
We meet once a month, alternate between sites and could vary from Friday to Saturday depending on who's working and where..
MANDATORY CLOTHING: Long pants and long sleeves, strong enclosed boots or shoes, wide brimmed hat.
Please feel free to email me any queries
Erika, could you forward this email to your contacts, thanks..
See you on the day !!
