Council to host LEP Briefings
________________________________________
Over the next three months Wollongong City Council will make decisions on Wollongong's Draft Local Environment Plan (LEP) 2009.

Council is reviewing around 1400 submissions on the draft LEP and the issues that have been raised will be considered in detail at Council meetings in May, June and July.

Director of Planning and Environment, Andrew Carfield, said Council will host Public Briefings at the Town Hall before each of the three Council Meetings.

"These Briefings will give the community an opportunity to make comments or ask questions about the recommendations that will go to that night's Council Meeting," Andrew Carfield said.

"Interested residents will have the opportunity to review the Council report and recommendations and then address the Administrators with any relevant concerns or comments on the draft plan."

"Residents are invited to attend and can also register to speak at the three briefings. The first Briefing will cover issues in the draft LEP related to building heights and density, the second will focus on specific rezonings and the third will deal with heritage, flooding and escarpment matters."

"It is now almost 20 years since the current LEP 1990 was introduced and the importance for Wollongong to finalise an up-to-date and contemporary Local Environment Plan should not be underestimated. This is a major milestone for the city," Mr Carfield added.

The Briefings will be held from 2.00 to 4.30pm at the Wollongong Town Hall on 26 May, 23 June and 28 July 2009. Afterwards Council will hold its regular monthly meetings in the Burelli Street Council Chambers at 5pm to discuss the Council Agenda.

To find out more or lodge your expression of interest to speak, details will be posted at www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au or residents can call Council's Land Use Planning Team on 4227 7631.
